Costa Rica is a real natural paradise with a huge variety of animals and plant species. Again and again we were thrilled when we discovered animals and beautiful plants in their free environment. During our tour through Costa Rica in 2008, we got to know several interesting areas and places and want to inform you in form of a travel report. First, we want to describe the area in the north of Sámara and its associated attractions. The turtle camp on the beach Playa Buena Vista Approximately 3.5 km in the north of Sámara on the beach Playa Buena Vista you could find the turtle project ASVO (Asociación de Voluntarios para el Servicio en las Areas Protegidas), which is situated there since 1 September 2005. The conservation project seemed very well organised to us and we found a lot of volunteers. The volunteers control 24 hours in shifts the whole beach in search of turtles arriving. The task of the volunteers is, for example, the identification of beach sections and collecting eggs, which they bring to a protected zone. When the turtles slip, what they do most of the time in the afternoon when the sun has no longer so much energy, the volunteers put them near the water, where they could automatically crawl into the sea. Here in Buena Vista arrive all four major types of turtles, including the largest among them - the leather turtle. The beach Playa Barrigona Approximately 7 km in the north of Sámara, near the beach Playa Buena Vista, was until a year ago, the Hotel Hacienda Dorado. Nearby is the beautiful and unspoiled beach Playa Barrigona with white sand. 'Abby' Lelchuk had purchased together with American partners probably in 1990 the Hacienda Dorada and designed three exquisitely houses. Since then, there were some prominent guests such as Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson and George Harrison. In 2007, Mel Gibson bought 168 hectares and recently the former neighbor Britney Spears (in Malibu, California) visited Mel Gibson in his newly acquired property. On these days there were a lot of the messages and articles in the press and the Paparazzis populated the beach Barrigona. A few days ago (mid-August 2008) was Bruce Willis on visit to Mel Gibson. Everything was super secret, so that no one of the press people was informed and both actors could enjoy a quiet weekend. Otherwise, the beach is usually deserted, with a beautiful waterfall, clear water and fine white sand. Since about 10 years, you could reach the beach Playa Barrigona by a public street. Here, at the beach Playa Barrigona, we have spent wonderful days - a romantic place for daydreamers and relaxing. Individual hotel for people who love nature A place to dream and to relax is also the Hotel Paraíso del Cocodrilo, which we found by chance. It is near the nature reserve of the turtles, which we often visited in the evenings, to observe the arriving turtles. During the day we relaxed most of the time on the beach Playa Barrigona or made trips to the Palm beach Carrillo with a small fishing port. The Palm beach Carrillo conveys the Caribbean flair and provides a good contrast to the other beaches. The hotel itself is situated in a beautiful natural area with many animals and has a large pool and a good restaurant.
